12 Months Before

  • Announce your engagement to family and friends
  • Start a wedding binder for all clippings, brochures, notes and details
  • Select wedding date
  • Book a site for your ceremony and reception
  • Select engagement and wedding rings
  • Decide on your wedding style/theme
  • Discuss and set a budget
  • Select a wedding coordinator
  • Select officiant and discuss ceremony
  • Select wedding attendants
  • Select and order wedding dress
  • Select professional photographer, videographer, florist and entertainment
  • Choose a caterer, if one is not available with your reception location
  • Select an emcee for your reception
  • Begin making origami cranes
  • Engagement party!
  • Make a wedding website to announce your wedding and keep guests updated with information.

9 months before

  • Establish your guest list and gather addresses
  • Send Save the Date cards for out of town guests
  • Select and order attendant and groomsmen's attire
  • Order wedding invitations and stationary
  • Register with bridal registry
  • Make reception plans
  • Plan honeymoon and update passports and vaccinations if necessary
  • Finalize all wedding vendors and secure your date with a deposit
  • Schedule engagement photos with photographer

6 months before

  • Make accommodations for out-of-town guests
  • Hire a day-of wedding coordinator (if you didn't hire a full service wedding coordinator)
  • Order your wedding cake
  • Finalize floral decor and bouquets
  • Research marriage license requirements and order wedding certificate
  • Meet with both sets of parents to coordinate their attire
  • Decide on and secure any rental items or equipment needed (tables, chairs, linens, etc).

3 months before

  • Secure all wedding vendors
  • Create timeline for entire wedding day
  • Book limousine and transportation
  • Make arrangements for rehearsal dinner
  • Purchase wedding guest book
  • Order wedding favors and other wedding accessories (cake knife, ring bearer pillow, flower girl basket, garter, etc.)
  • Begin any necessary counseling with your officiant
  • Finalize guest list
  • Have bridal/wedding shower

2 months before

  • Address and send out invitations and announcements. Be sure to include maps.
  • Arrange special music selections
  • Finalize wedding day timeline
  • Plan bridesmaid's luncheon/spa day
  • Secure relatives for any ceremony and reception assistance (sign-in table, ushers, etc.)
  • Start gathering RSVPs
  • Arrange for final gown fitting
  • Meet with hair and make-up stylist for consultation
  • Purchase bridal party gifts and grooms gift
  • Open a joint checking and savings account
  • Order address labels (or stamp!) with you and your future husband's new name and address
  • Discuss and decide on marriage vows (doing your own or going traditional)

1 month before

1 week before

  • Pack bags for the honeymoon
  • Arrange for pick-up of bridal attire
  • Final fittings for bridal party
  • Make a final check with officiant, florist, caterer and reception
  • Bachelor/bachelorette parties
  • Get a relaxing massage
  • Give caterer your final guest count (in Hawaii, 3 days before)
  • Attend wedding rehearsal (2 days before is the best. This leaves enough time relax, enjoy and get some rest!)

1 day before

  • Get a manicure and/or pedicure
  • Confirm honeymoon arrangements
  • Make payment envelopes for each vendor
  • Put together bridal emergency kit
  • REST and enjoy!
